Flameworking Glass: Boro Basics

Appointments
Fridays 9 am to Noon (Offered most Fridays year-round)
Fee: $110
Cash or check
Limit of six students per class

Discover the thrill of working with molten glass in this one-day introduction to the art of
flameworking! Flamework is the process of melting glass greg hofftubes and rods in front of an oxygen/propane torch. Flameworking borrows many of the same techniques used in the hot shop, but in a much smaller and intimate setting. The craft allows for a high level of detail, perfect for glass bead making and sculptural work. In this beginner level class, we will explore the basics of working with borosilicate glass in front of the flame. Students can expect to take home several pieces of their own creation!

Supplies will be provided by the instructor and are included in the cost of class.

Payments are made payable by cash or check (no cards accepted) directly to the artist. Please make checks payable to Greg Hoff.

For more information, please contact Brandy via email or at 251-981-2787, or Greg Hoff via email

CASA Fall and Spring

We have 4 CASA options during the school year. Each semester long class meets once per week for two hours and is for kids in grades 3 to 6. Students will get to enjoy making projects in the Hot Shop with glass artists and the Clay Studio with our full-time potter. In the Kids Studio they will learn about drawing, painting and thinking creatively. Students will spend time in the gallery and the great outdoors. Special snacks are often created as part of their artistic endeavors.

The class package cost $185 per semester with a limited number of scholarships available. Please email Amoreena with any questions or scholarship inquiries. Students who attend OBES will be picked up by a staff member in the school gym at the end of the day. We limit the number of participants per class so that they can
get excellent instruction, the best supplies and lots of attention.

  • Wednesdays 10:00 am - 12:00pm OR 3 :00pm to 5:00 pm
