City Ordinances

Municipal powers (laws) are established by ordinances, which are enacted into law by the City Council. To allow for public input, discussion and consideration, no ordinance is adopted at the meeting at which it is introduced unless unanimous consent is obtained for the immediate consideration of the ordinance. Four members must vote affirmatively to adopt any ordinance.

After final passage, ordinances are signed by the City Clerk for filing as a permanent record and incorporated into the Official Code of Ordinances, which is available online. Council also has powers to amend and repeal laws through the same process.
