GULF SHORES, Ala. (WKRG) - The Gulf Shores City School Board unanimously voted to offer the superintendent job on Monday [April 16, 2018].
Current Huntsville Superintendent Matt Akin was interviewed last Thursday and less than a week later the Board decided to offer him the position. Dr. Akin was the only candidate, out of the 27 that applied for the position, who was interviewed.
Akin spent almost two hours in a public forum answering questions and explaining why he would be the perfect fit for the job. He has been Huntsville's superintendent for a year and a half. Before that he spent 13 years heading up the Piedmont City School System and it seems he is more comfortable or challenged by a smaller system and that is why he wants to make a move.
No official start date has been set, but Gulf Shores wants to start this fall and are moving forward in that direction.
