ALDOT November 2019 Newsletter: Widening SR-180/Canal Road in Orange Beach

ALDOT Southwest Region | November 25, 2019 

The widening of SR-180/Canal Rd. between Foley Beach Express and SR-161 in Orange Beach began in September 2019 and anticipated completion is December 2020.

Crews have widened, graded, and paved the first 3000 ft of this project between SR-161 and Cypress St. Ditches have been cut, graded, and sodded within this portion as well...

City offices closed Nov. 28-29, plus half-day Nov. 27, for Thanksgiving holiday 2019

During the Thanksgiving holiday, non-essential city offices will close at noon Wednesday, November 27th and all day Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th.

Concerning trash pickup, the usual Friday residential routes will run on Saturday.

City offices will open for normal business hours on Monday, December 2nd.

Acoustic Arts concert series kicks off Dec. 2 with Four A Change

The Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach will be hosting an Acoustic Arts concert series from December to February. 

Concerts planned include the following: 

  • Monday, December 2nd - Four A Change Christmas Concert will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance.

Orange Beach student starts campaign to help hurricane-ravaged Bahamas

Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon and the City Council on Tuesday, Nov. 19 recognized Orange Beach High School freshman Hallie Rogers for a Bahamas Strong community service project she has started to help the area that was ravaged by Category 5 Hurricane Dorian in early September. 

As part of the campaign, Hallie is collecting diapers and baby wipes, and also selling Bahamas Strong shirts...

11 recruits graduate from Firefighter I/II Recruit School in Orange Beach

The Orange Beach Fire Rescue Firefighter I/II Recruit Class 19-02 graduated on Wednesday, November 20th during a ceremony at the Orange Beach Event Center.

The 11 individuals took to the stage as recruits and stepped down as sworn firefighters, with 10 representing Orange Beach Fire Rescue and one representing Chickasaw Fire Department.
