Junior Marksmanship Program returns to Orange Beach in June

Junior Marksmanship Program 2017

The annual Junior Marksmanship Program will be held in June in Orange Beach.

The free program, conducted in conjunction with the State of Alabama, Department of Conservation, Wildlife & Freshwater Fisheries Division, is open  to children ages 8 to 15. Younger or older children may attend pending approval. For more information, call Chris Litton at 251-980-5946.

Three separate dates are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and is limited to 30 participants per event.

Each event will be different and the participants will learn new skills at each one. Firearms and ammunition will be provided. Firearms safety is stressed throughout the entire event.

Children 10 years and older, attending both firearms events, will qualify to receive their Hunters Education Certification after completing an additional free 4-hour class.

  • First Event: Sporting Clays at Police Range - Saturday, June 2, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Second Event: Rifles at Police Range - Saturday, June 16, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Third Event: Archery at Orange Beach Recreation Center - date/time TBA .

These events are subject to cancellation due to range availability. The Orange Beach Police Shooting Range is located behind the Public Works Office at 4400 William Silvers Parkway (same road as the Sportsplex) off Canal Road. Archery will be held at the Recreation Center at 4849 Wilson Blvd.

Eye protection, ear protection, snacks, and drinks will be provided. Participants must be picked up at 1 p.m. every day.
