Hurricane Ida Update - Storm Update graphic

The City of Orange Beach continues to monitor updates on Hurricane Ida from the National Hurricane Center and our local National Weather Service bureau in Mobile. Ida is forecast to make landfall as a major hurricane along the southeast Louisiana coast on Sunday night.

A Tropical Storm Warning and High Surf Warning have been issued for the Alabama Gulf Coast. A Storm Surge Watch and Flash Flood Watch are in effect. The peak storm surge of 2 to 4 feet above normally dry ground is possible for our coastline. Throughout the weekend high surf is expected with possible peak surf height of 8-12 feet and life-threatening rip currents. Double red flags will continue to fly, which means all Gulf waters are closed to the public. For the safety of all, please keep out of the waters of the Gulf at this time.

Tropical Storm force winds, especially gusts, and isolated tornadoes are possible Sunday and Monday. Periods of heavy rain (6-8 inches likely) and flash flooding is possible through Tuesday.

Residents should be finalizing preparations, especially with heavy rain, storm surge and coastal flooding possible.

  • For those living in low-lying areas, mobile homes and RVs, please take all necessary precautions.
  • Sand and sandbags are available for residents to fill themselves behind City Hall at 4099 Orange Beach Blvd. A shovel is provided if individuals do not have one. Please use no more than five bags to save some for others.
  • If you have a boat or vessel, secure it or move it to higher ground.
  • With Tropical Storm force winds possible, residents and local property owners are encouraged to secure all outside items around their properties, such as patio furniture, umbrellas, awnings, and trash/recycling receptacles.
  • There is a high risk of high surf and life-threatening rip currents through early next week. While Gulf waters are closed to the public, the beaches remain open. For a detailed beach report, call 251-981-SURF (7873).
  • The Jason Aldean concert originally scheduled for tonight (Saturday, August 28th) at The Wharf Amphitheater has been rescheduled to October 31, 2021.
  • The Orange Beach Aquatics Center, Golf Center and Recreation Center will be closed on Sunday, August 29th.
