Many of your Disney music and character favorites will be brought to the stage by “A Touch of Magic” – Disney Musical Showcase, June 23-25. The performance, presented by the City of Orange Beach Expect Excellence Music Department, will be “a great opportunity for people to come and sing along with these very popular songs that everybody knows,” said Expect Excellence Music Director Caleb Pittman.
The production will encompass a group of 50 performers selected from the community to take you on a tour of Disney movies from “The Little Mermaid” to “Aladdin” to “Toy Story” and so much more. The selection of the Disney showcase was decided on after seeing the vibrant response from audiences attending Beauty and the Beast in early 2021.
“We had people of all ages coming dressed up. And we had little girls coming in, dressed as princesses wanting to get their picture taken with various members of the cast,” Pittman said. “It was really special watching people’s eyes brighten up and get so excited.”
Pittman said the show will be a combination of many elements. There will, of course, be a choir and numerous solos and duets throughout, but the choreography, lighting, and costumes will complete the magical journey and “the songs are grouped together so it will almost be like following the plot of a movie,” he said.
The program will be a great chance to “hear a lot of your favorite Disney songs all in one place,” he explained. “There will be a lot of characters, music, and lighting to really keep people involved and entertained,” Pittman added.
In addition to the showcase, there will be a Toys for Tots drop-off point, to help promote the charitable work they do all year.
“Most people know about Toys for Tots during Christmas, but Toys for Tots provides help for families year round. They will go to local fire stations after a house fire and ask how many kids there are in the family and where they are currently located,” he said. He is hopeful that bringing a new unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots will also be part of the overall experience. Donations are encouraged, but not required to attend the show.
The Disney showcase will be held June 23-25 at the Orange Beach Performing Arts Center which is located on east side of the Orange Beach High School campus at 23908 Canal Road in Orange Beach. The 23rd and 24th performances will be at 7 p.m. and the 25th will be at 2 p.m. All tickets are $15.
