Pardon Our Progress: Please be aware that starting on Friday, March 6th, ALDOT’s Canal Road widening contractor will begin installing new drainage pipes across Canal Road west and east of William Silvers Parkway and the work will require the closure of one westbound lane.

Work is expected to take place from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day up to Friday, March 13th. One westbound and one eastbound lane will remain open although lanes will be shifted as the pipe installation progresses.

The contractor will set up the lane closure on Friday, March 6th in the westbound outside and westbound inside lanes of Canal Road at William Silvers Parkway to begin the drainage crossings. A new triple drainage line will be installed on Canal Road east of William Silvers, and a single line drainage pipe will be installed on Canal Road west of William Silvers. This work will require the roadway to be open cut to lay the new drainage pipes. To accommodate traffic, the westbound traffic flow will be reduced into a single lane and shifted over into the center lane through the closure. This lane closure will be approximately 1,000 feet long. Eastbound traffic will remain in the existing travel lane. Traffic cones will be used to delineate the by-directional traffic.

Plans are to open all lanes to traffic at the end of each work day pending no issues.

It will take several days to perform this work.  As work progresses across the roadway, the lane shifts will be adjusted each day to ensure traffic can safely pass through the lane closure allowing the drainage work to continue across the roadway. Uniformed Police Officers will be staged in the intersection of William Silvers to manage traffic during work hours.
