Challenge grant announced for Tri-City Community Foundation

December 19, 2018

The Advisory Committee of the Tri-City Community Foundation along with board members of the Erie H. Meyer Charitable Fund joined local financial advisors at the Gulf Shores Welcome Center to discuss charitable giving opportunities in the Foley, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach communities during this season of giving. The Erie H. Meyer Charitable Fund announced a 2-to-1 challenge grant through which they will match every dollar contributed to the Tri-City Community Foundation up to $100,000; an opportunity to propel the Foundation forward to leave a lasting impact.

The Tri-City Community Foundation was formed in August 2018 to serve as a valued researcher, collaborator and partner in charitable giving for the Foley, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach communities. Individuals and organizations with philanthropic goals can establish a fund with the Foundation and choose to designate how the funds are issued or allow the Foundation to allocate them to verified charitable organizations through a competitive grant-making cycle.

“The more local we are in our fundraising efforts, the greater our impact,” says president and CEO, Rebecca Byrne. “The Erie H. Meyer Charitable Fund’s challenge grant is just the spark we need to create energy in this community to support the Tri-City Community Foundation.”

The committee overseeing the Foundation consists of eight members. Michelle Hodges, the chair of the committee; Donna Watts, the vice-chair; and Ed Douglas, secretary, work closely with members Gary Ellis, Bob Higgins, David Lee, Tommy Lee, and Herb Malone. In addition, the cities of Foley, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach each have an ex-officio member serving on the committee. Together, they will determine what areas to focus on within the Tri-City community. Through concerted grant-making, the Foundation gives these local leaders an opportunity to make a difference in the communities they call home.
