With Alabama’s economy reopening in phases starting Thursday, April 30, 2020 at 5 p.m. American Roads announced that the bridges in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores, Tuscaloosa and the Montgomery area will resume accepting cash toll payments at the same time.
The southerly Canal Road eastbound lane near Alabama Credit Union will be closed starting Thursday night, April 30th, at 9 p.m. and ending Friday morning, May 1st, at 8 a.m. due to the lowering of a 12-inch sanitary sewer force main.
The work will take place in front of the Alabama Credit Union, 24254 Canal Road.

1. I’ve heard that the beaches are re-opening. Does that mean the beaches will return to normal?
During the meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, the Orange Beach City Council approved the low bid to construct the new 24/7 Adult Fitness Center on the Orange Beach Recreation Center campus. Stuart Construction LLC was awarded the contract, with a not-to-exceed cost of $2,968,082.
Pardon Our Progress: Expect lane closures on Canal Road on Monday, April 27th as ALDOT’s Canal Road widening contractor will be onsite to place asphalt leveling at drainage crossings to smooth out where the roadway has settled.
