Women in sports: Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission receives major sports industry honors

The Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission won three prestigious honors at the 27th Annual NASC Symposium: Michelle Russ, director of sales for the Sports Commission, received the Game Changer Award; the Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission was named Sports Tourism Organization of the Year (under 500,000 population); and Ashley Wilson, sales manager for the Sports Commission, received her Certified Sports Events Executive designation. GULF SHORES AND ORANGE BEACH, ALABAMA – On May 10, 2019, the National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC), now rebranded as the Sports Events & Tourism Association (Sports ETA), presented industry awards for outstanding individual and organization work at its 27th annual NASC Symposium in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Police Chief Joe Fierro and the Orange Beach Police Department invite the public to meet and mingle with officers at “Lending and Law Enforcement in Paradise” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, June 13 at Supreme Lending in Orange Beach.

Light hors d’oeuvres and soft drinks will be provided by Supreme Lending, which is located at 25910 Canal Road.

Dozens of officers and members of the community gathered at the Orange Beach Police Department on Friday, May 10th to honor officers and employees from the department who passed away while in service to the public.

The observance was held as part of National Police Week, May 12-18, 2019, which honors the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement officers.

The Orange Beach Fire Department Volunteer Board's 53rd Annual BBQ will take place Saturday, June 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. - or until the 'Que runs out - at Fire Station No. 1, 25853 John Snook Drive, behind City Hall. (Please note that the original location was the Community Center but had to be moved due to planned construction at the Recreation Center.)
