2019 Orange Beach Arbor Day tree giveaway

As it celebrates 20 years as an Arbor Day Foundation-designated Tree City USA community, Orange Beach saw an outstanding turnout for the annual tree giveaway on Feb. 23.

More than 150 people walked away from the Community Development building with a variety of seedlings and potted trees that included sawtooth oak, nuttall oak, live oak, drake elm, red maple, American elm, river birch and cypress.

Chuck Smith, the city’s code enforcement officer, and City Forester Woody Speed organized the tree giveaway that was aided by a $250 donation from the Orange Beach Garden Club.

With the great turnout on Saturday, Feb. 23, Smith said it was the best participation he’s seen in his many years working the event.
