The City of Orange Beach will observe Arbor Day with a tree giveaway from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, February 22nd. The city will give away potted saplings in front of the Orange Beach Community Development building at 4101 Orange Beach Blvd. The 1- to 3-gallon containers will consist of a variety of hardwood trees for citizens to plant in their yards.
For another consecutive year, Orange Beach has met the four standards to become a Tree City USA community: it has a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.
Communities that earn Tree City USA recognition not only have taken the time to meet strict standards, they know that trees improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits. Later this month, the Mayor and City Council will proclaim that February 22, 2020 is Arbor Day in Orange Beach.
